Electoral Working Group

Charleston DSA’s Electoral Working Group is responsible for engaging in efforts surrounding electoral politics, including campaigns for public office, considering endorsements, local power mapping, public policy advocacy campaigns, contacting elected officials, and more.

Our biggest recent electoral project has been our members’ involvement in the national DSA for Bernie campaign. Charleston DSA members discussed Bernie’s policies with thousands of our neighbors through texts, phone calls, tabling and door-to-door canvassing, and we learned a lot about campaigning in the process.

We encourage all of our members interested in electoral politics to get involved and help us set our ever-evolving priorities, and work to achieve meaningful political and policy victories here in the Charleston area and beyond. We especially encourage any members who are interested in potentially running for public office to reach out for advice and ways we could help.

We feel inspired and invigorated by the stories of numerous DSA chapters all across the country that have mounted successful campaigns for local, state and federal offices, and are significantly reshaping the conversation in American politics as a result. Help us follow their example and work on getting a wave of Democratic Socialists into office here in Charleston and across South Carolina!
